Huge impact of US additional tariff on Brazilian beef imports
USA Brazilian beef imports for the week ending September 6 (not official) were at 1,262 MT, according to the USDA, with the last four weeks averaging around 2,500 MT per week, informed the Daily Livestock Report (DLR). That compares to March and April, when imports of Brazilian product averaged 5,000 MT per week and during some weeks reached as high as 8,000 MT. The 50% baseline tariff on Brazilian beef, in effect for over a month, is having a significant impact in U.S. beef imports.
DLR projects that “in the weeks ahead, imports are likely to be even smaller, reflecting the very slow pace of shipments out of Brazil in August” and that “consumers are likely to be hit the most, having to bid up on a tighter ground beef supply”.
